It even does this on the xD memory card for my camera, so after having copied my pictures and deleted them from the card, the card is still full. Is it possible to turn this off for USB and memory cards, so OS X either writes these files to the primary disk or doesn't write them at all? Boot the computer and connect the SD memory Card to your computer's memory card reader.
Hi guys, I have an SD Card 8Gb that I used to use in a Win computer. I'm now a Mac user. The SD Card can be read, but can not be formatted or have any files deleted or inserted. The slider in turned ok on the card, but the properties of it keep saying 'read-only' permission. And in the Disk Utility app the options to erase the sd card are all. Yes it is possible to clean RAM slots. To clear of debris use canned air as previously mentioned. Before doing any of the following, unplug it, press the power button for 30 seconds and let it sit for an hour or more for the capacitors to dissipate their charge.
I suppose that you are talking about hard drive memory and not RAM memory.

Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the 'c'key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive. Once it has finished booting and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
Click on the drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in a Name for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected a partition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the Partitioning is done quit Disk Utility. Your drive should now be blank. You can now install a new Operating System.
